Stupid, Stupid, Stupid Statements

January 14, 2010

Disgraced former Illinois governor Rod Blagojevich has put his foot in his mouth once again.  His latest faux pas occurs in the upcoming issue of Esquire Magazine where he is quoted as saying, “I’m blacker than Barack Obama. I shined shoes. I grew up in a five-room apartment. My father had a little laundromat in a black community not far from where we lived.”  He later apologized calling the statements, “Stupid, stupid, stupid.”  However, when asked if he would deliver that apology to the president himself he told reporters “I’d be happy to but, you know, I don’t have the phone number.”  Blagojevich was impeached and removed from office amid allegations of corruption that include selling the senate seat left open by Obama.  His trial is set to begin in June. click here for limerick

From The White House to the Big House

November 29, 2009

On November 24, 2009 President Barack Obama hosted his first state dinner honoring the prime minister of India and found two uninvited guests at the party.  Michaele and Tareq Salahi of Virginia somehow managed to get through Secret Service checkpoints and allowed to enter the event despite not being on the guest list.  The story is still evolving and latest reports are that they met Obama in the receiving line.  If they lied to gain entry they can be prosecuted and may face jail time.  Michaele is a former cheerleader for the Washington Redskins football team and is currently in the running to star in a reality show called, “The Real Housewives of Washington D.C”.  She allegedly informed the production company that they were invited to the party and were filmed in their home as they prepared. click here for limerick

HOPEfully he learned his lesson

October 20, 2009

Artist Shepard Fairey gained notoriety for creating the now-famous Barack Obama “HOPE” poster.  Now he is in the news for admitting that he lied about the origin of the inspiration for that image.  At first he stated it was from the Associated Press photo of Obama next to George Clooney.  That would have fallen under a law called fair use which would allow him to use the image without paying for it.  Now he has confessed that he lied and used a solo shot of Obama – a truth that is likely to undermine his fair use claim.  In addition he attempted to destroy evidence to enhance his legal argument and this has caused his legal team to withdraw from the case. click here for limerick

Politics in 140 Characters or Less

September 21, 2009

Former Alaska Governor, Sarah Palin, has found a way to sidestep traditional media yet still get her political messages to her fan base.  Using social media like Twitter and Facebook, she is able to state her opinions on various topics while not having to face questions that require immediate responses.  According to an article on Politico.com her 850,000+ Facebook fans ranks second for a politician, President Obama is first.  When Palin left the governor’s office her Twitter account had 140,000 followers, again, second only to Obama.  Ari Fleischer, former White House press secretary and current media strategist, believes the online medium is perfectly suited for someone as polarizing as Palin.  When Palin left her post earlier this year, she hinted that she would be back in politics in a capacity to reach the nation.  While that plan has not yet been revealed, she does appear to be trying to gain supporters with these online efforts.  click here for limerick

CH – CH – CH – CHEESY!

August 2, 2009

Since his historic presidential win in November 2008, President Barack Obama’s likeness has been emblazedoned on nearly everything you can imagine.  From the expected; collector plates, commemorative coins, and coffee mugs, to the unexpected; Topps trading cards, underwear and toilet paper.  But one company has now seen fit to make the Chia Obama!  You can choose from Happy or Determined Obama and you get enough seeds for three plantings.  Borrowing from his famous campaign phrase, the tagline to their commercial is, “Can YOU grow one?  Yes you CAN!”  click here for limerick

Pitcher Perfect

July 25, 2009

Chicago White Sox pitcher, Mark Buehrle, pitched a perfect game on Thursday, July 23, 2009.   A perfect game is defined as a game in which the opposing team gets no men on base – no hits, no walks, and no hit batters.  It is such a rare feat, that this is only the 18th time in the history of Major League Baseball that this has been done.  Buehrle came close to accomplishing this once before in 2007 but he walked Sammy Sosa.  He is having difficulty determining which was more surreal – pitching a perfect game or receiving a call of congratulations from President Barack Obama, a known White Sox fan.  click here for limerick

On The Fly

June 18, 2009

News agencies and the Internet alike are all abuzz about President Barack Obama’s deadly action . . . against a fly.  During an interview with CNBC correspondent John Harwood, the fly consistently disrupted the duo.  When it lit upon Obama’s left hand he swiftly killed it with his right and then proudly asked, “That was pretty impressive, wasn’t it?  I got the sucker.” He then directed the cameraman to the dead fly on the carpet.  click here for limerick

Fighting the Flu

May 3, 2009

Fearing further expansion of the Swine Flu (H1N1 Flu) President Barack Obama asked Congress last week for $1.5 billion to help combat the outbreak.  The idea behind the request is to give the government “maximum flexibility” to supplement antiviral stockpiles, add medical equipment and prepare for a vaccine.  click here for limerick

Biden’s in the Room

January 28, 2009

When asked how he views his new role, Vice President Joe Biden responded that he wants to be “the last guy in the room” on major decisions made by President Barack Obama.  With his vast experience, especially in foreign relations, and 20-year age difference, Biden views himself as a Senior Advisor to President Obama and wishes his opinion to carry greater weight in decision-making.  However, Biden also has a history of flubs on the public stage, and that could prove challenging in his effort to be taken seriously by Obama’s cabinet.  click here for limerick
