AT&T the Red Faced Phone Company

November 21, 2009

The holiday season is a popular time for wireless phone companies to make sales.  This year Verizon is facing AT&T head-on.  The battle is over network coverage where 3G (the fastest service) is available.  Verizon has various ads showing that their 3G coverage is five times greater.  AT&T does not dispute the accuracy of the maps but states that they could lead consumers to believe that non 3G areas receive no AT&T coverage at all.  AT&T has filed a lawsuit to have the ads removed.  The latest version of the ads depicts the iPhone on the “Island of Misfit Toys” which was featured in the popular Rankin-Bass Christmas cartoon Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer.  Prior to this, Verizon featured the long-running “Can you hear me now?” campaign. click here for limerick
