Letterman’s Privates Made Public Again
October 5, 2009
On Thursday, October 1, 2009, “Late Show” host David Letterman announced to his viewing audience that he was recently the victim of an extortion plot. Robert “Joe” Halderman, a producer for the CBS show 48 hours, presented proof that letterman had affairs with female members of his staff. Halderman threatened to release the details of these affairs in a screenplay and book unless letterman paid him $2 million. With the assistance of the Special Prosecution Bureau, a division of the district attorney’s office, Halderman was arrested for his crime. Letterman is a notoriously private person but previous stories of a stalker and a kidnapping attempt of his young son have been revealed to the public. Letterman and his wife Regina married in March of this year but have been a couple since 1986. All of the affairs occurred prior to the marriage. As you might imagine, this salacious news has been great fodder for Letterman’s fellow late night comedians! (Editor’s Note: Do to copyright laws, video footage of Letterman’s tale was hard to find. If it is active, please know it was the best link we could find and please ignore the four ads that appear on the video itself)
Letterman was victim of a “sextortion” plot
And for $2 million, silence could be bought
Dave’s been the punch line of jokes
From his fellow late night folks
Though they are all thankful they’re not in his spot!
