We all know that dogs chase cars but have you ever wondered what they would do if they ever caught one? A pit bull in Hope Mills, NC has been kind enough to answer that question for us. Deputy Lavallis travelled in his police cruiser to respond to a complaint made by Gloria Bass. While Lavallis and Bass were talking, a neighbor dog chewed on–and deflated–all four of the police cruiser’s tires. Damage was assessed at $500 and the dog’s owner is responsible for the damage.

Last week, the Madison, Wisconsin City Council voted on their official city bird. The state bird of Wisconsin is the American Robin, but Madison took a different direction . . . a pink plastic flamingo. Apparently this bird is steeped in Madison history and was a key component in “one of the greatest college pranks ever.” Back in 1979 the University of Wisconsin’s student government planted 1,000 plastic pink flamingos on the hill leading to the Dean’s Office. Although this prank is 30 years old, the city bird resolution passed with a 15 – 4 vote.

Robert Lloyd Finder, 26, of North Bend, Oregon, is going to need a top-quality lawyer to defend him against the more than nine charges levied against him. While walking past a police station, he noticed most of the police cars and personnel were gone. He decided to test his skills as a burglar and discover if he could break in. With all of the officers out on a call, Finder was able to slip in one door, kick in another one (it took about 10 attempts), and steal two tasers, a police radio, and a police car. He left the car in a tunnel on some train tracks and then tried to sell the tasers – and that is when cops caught up with him and charged him with everything they could think of.

Pensacola, Florida was the scene where Steve Fluegge’s home was robbed twice. After the thief took Fluegge’s wallet, watch, and video game system, he found he could not handle the 100-lb flat screen TV. The police were called and during their investigation, they left the television in the backyard where the crook placed it so they could dust for fingerprints. But before that could occur, the thief returned and took the TV too. Police searched the neighborhoods using K-9 officers but were not able to locate the property nor the crook. Police have offered to pay for the cost of the television.

As summer ends and fall begins the time of year known as “flu season” is quickly approaching. With the recent outbreak of the H1N1 flu virus, commonly known as Swine Flu, the U.S. Government is working hard to educate the public. The elderly, ill, and children are especially susceptible to the illness. In an attempt to teach children good hygiene such as sneezing into the bend of their arm and frequently washing hands, the government partnered with famous Sesame Street character, Elmo. The ads were originally aired in May 2009 but they have now been redesigned to promote the government’s flu website, www.flu.gov.

A woman in Ferndale, MI may be in contention for the worst first-date ever. She met 23-year-old Terrance Dejuan McCoy and they got together for dinner at Buffalo Wild Wings. Near the end of the meal, he asked for her car key so he could get his wallet (which he claimed he left in the car). However, instead of returning, he stuck her with the dinner bill and stole her car. At the time of this writing he was still at large but he was identified through his phone number and a photo that he had sent to her phone.

Pfizer, the world’s largest drug maker, was fined $2.3 billion for promoting drugs for uses that they were not approved for. In the past decade over $11 billion in fines has been assessed against the U.S. drug industry for similar offenses. This is the fourth time that Pfizer has been reprimanded. However, this record fine is designed to be a warning to all drug manufacturers who regularly see these fines as the cost of doing business. One example of their deception was to market Bextra for acute pain and surgical pain in doses above the approved maximum when it was only approved for arthritis. As a way of promoting the use of the drugs, Pfizer gave away trips, golf junkets, massages, and other perks to ply doctors into prescribing the drugs.

NFL quarterback, Brett Favre who has made headlines lately with his on-again, off-again retirement, is currently playing for the Minnesota Vikings. In a pre-season game on Monday night, the Vikings were lined up in a Wildcat Package which placed Favre wide left – effectively making him a blocker. As Eugene Wilson, a safety for the opposing Houston Texans, moved in to tackle the runner, Favre made an illegal crack back block that injured Wilson. It is illegal because this type of maneuver has been known to cause career ending injuries. After the game, Favre, who is said to be nursing a broken rib stated that he believed that it would have been worse for him to not have made a block and possibly allow his teammate to be injured from a tackle.
