Finally… an event we can all medal in!

September 26, 2009

The struggle to become an Olympic athlete goes far beyond the rigors of training and conditioning, it can also include a massive amount of fundraising.  However, very often a substantial part of the funding comes from the athlete’s family themselves.  As a result, many competitors find alternate ways to finance their dream.  Yet, few have taken as bold a step as New Zealand Tae Kwon Do champion, Logan Campbell.  His family paid most of the $NZ150, 000 it took for him to compete in the Beijing Olympics.  His placement only in the top 16 caused real concern that he would not garner the $NZ300,000 necessary to compete in London in 2012.  Therefore he and a partner opened a business – but not just any business – they opened a brothel.  While this is perfectly legal in his country, the New Zealand Olympic committee looks for athletes that can be role models and he may not be invited to compete in international competitions – money or no money. click here for limerick
