Has the City Council Flown the Coop?
September 8, 2009
Last week, the Madison, Wisconsin City Council voted on their official city bird. The state bird of Wisconsin is the American Robin, but Madison took a different direction . . . a pink plastic flamingo. Apparently this bird is steeped in Madison history and was a key component in “one of the greatest college pranks ever.” Back in 1979 the University of Wisconsin’s student government planted 1,000 plastic pink flamingos on the hill leading to the Dean’s Office. Although this prank is 30 years old, the city bird resolution passed with a 15 – 4 vote. click here for limerick
