Cranky in the Congo
August 12, 2009
On Monday, August 10, Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton appeared at a town hall-style meeting while on an official visit to the Democratic Republic of the Congo. A student in the audience asked Clinton to comment on the opinion of her husband, former President Bill Clinton, about a loan offer from the Chinese to the Congo. Clinton’s irritation was clear when she answered, “My husband is not the Secretary of State. I am.” Reports following the meeting indicate the student approached Clinton and told her that he meant to ask President Obama’s opinion. Various websites and news articles have suggested that Clinton, our nation’s top diplomat, continues to feel in the shadow of the former President, particularly after recently negotiating the release of two American citizens from North Korea. click here for limerick
