You Won’t Be Alone in This Room
July 31, 2009
If you went to a movie showing, waited in a long line with people who were seeing it for the umpteenth time, recited dialogue with the characters, talked back to the screen and threw objects at appointed times; what movie are you watching? If you said Rocky Horror Picture Show you would be . . . Wrong! Instead, you would be at a screening for the newest cult classic, The Room. It has been dubbed “the Citizen Cane of bad movies”, for its terrible acting, out of focus frames, incongruous story lines, and a framed picture of a spoon that appears for no reason. Tommy Wiseau, the writer, producer, and lead actor claims this is just what he was aiming for. Others doubt that and believe it was an earnest attempt at drama that derailed in many, many ways. But with fans waiting hours for sold out shows and celebrity endorsements, it is likely this 2005 film will be in theaters for a long time to come.
The movie’s quality is described as low grade
And the script includes everything that’s clichéd
But the odds have been beat
Because crowds line the street
To see The Room, “the best, worst movie ever made”
