For a woman in Florida who has not dated in 20 years, what sounded like a smart idea cost her and her colleague their jobs. Carol Bass, a records clerk with the Fort Meyers Police Department joined a telephone dating service and was naturally curious about the men she was speaking to. In Vermont, dairy farmers are working together to reduce the amount of cows’ intestinal methane as it is the leading cause of agricultural greenhouse gases. Studies have also shown that burps have greater emissions than gas escaping from the other end of the cow. They’ve switched from a corn or soy diet to one of alfalfa, flaxseed and grasses high in Omega 3 fatty acids, greatly reducing gas production in the cow’s intestine. The farmers participating in the Greener Cow Project do not pay more for the customized feed and have noticed the cows are healthier on the new diet.

The internet has become an incredible source for information about anything. Because of the informal and ever-evolving use of the internet, formal ethical guidelines have not been in place for bloggers and personal websites. As a result, some blogs that review products receive compensation from the companies that manufacture or distribute the items. This is a permitted practice, as long as the website acknowledges receipt of freebies or compensation. The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) believes that a large number of bloggers are not disclosing their relationships with the companies. The agency is taking steps to publish guidelines later this summer and will begin monitoring websites for infractions.

On June 14, 2009 The Los Angeles Lakers became NBA champions for the 15th time in franchise history. During their victory parade, they proudly showed off their shiny golden trophy.
