Escape Artist

March 7, 2009

Arkansas: Texarkana-After being caught escaping from prison twice and failing to appear 3 times, Demarcus Cooks, 38, could have accepted a plea deal of 45 years in prison.  However, he chose to let a jury decide his fate .  After only 90 minutes of deliberation the jury awarded him a series of sentences totaling 100 years.  Normally a prisoner is eligible for parole after serving 1/3 of his sentence, but his prior 16 convictions brand him as a habitual criminal and make it unlikely that he will ever see freedom again. click here for limerick
