By coincidence, the spotlight has been on Illinois politicians.  Last week we celebrated the 200th anniversary of Abraham Lincoln’s birth.  Over the past several days we have learned that Roland Burris, the Junior Senator from Illinois, was untruthful in his testimony about his contacts with Rod Blagojevich, the recently impeached governor of Illinois.  Added to this mix of personalities is President Obama, former Senator from Illinois, who has made significant promises of change and recovery to the American people, but also alienated several members of the Republican party with the quick passage of the economic stimulus bill.  click here for limerick

President Obama has stated the need for bipartisanship to heal the country’s economic problems.  Since taking office, he has faced several challenges to achieving this goal.  Republican Senators were unsupportive of the stimulus plan passed by the House.  Also, Commerce Nominee Judd Gregg abruptly withdrew his name from consideration on Thursday, February 12, 2009 citing “irresolvable conflicts” with the Obama administration.  click here for limerick

On February 12, 2009, USA Today reported that in tough economic times, couples choose to find entertainment within the home rather than spend money on an evening out.  As a result, condom sales increased 5% in the fourth quarter of 2008 and 6% in the month of January compared to those times last year.   click here for limerick

On January 26, 2009, 33-year-old Nadya Suleman gave birth to octuplets.  An investigation following the birth revealed the single, unemployed, mother had six other children under the age of 8, also born through in-vitro fertilization.  On February 11, 2009, USA Today reported that California taxpayers will likely pay for a portion of the hospital costs (estimated at $1.3 million).  Currently Suleman receives $490 in food stamps per month and disability checks for three of her older children.   And, check out these comparison photos of Suleman and Angelina Jolie . . . do you think there’s a resemblance?  click here for limerick

“Run It” Chris Brown, You’re a Wanted Man

The 51st Grammy Awards, aired on February 8, 2009, listed Chris Brown and his girlfriend, Rihanna, as performing.  Prior to showtime, a Grammy rep confirmed that Brown and Rihanna would not appear.  The Los Angeles Police Department identified Chris Brown as the suspect in a domestic violence felony battery charge against an undisclosed woman.  click here for limerick
