A Wonderful Evening
February 27, 2009
Wednesday evening the White House hosted a special concert honoring Stevie Wonder with the Gershwin Prize for Popular Song. Prior to the concert, Michelle Obama noted that the first album she purchased was Stevie Wonder’s Talking Book. Later she stated “Years later, when Barack and I discovered what Stevie meant about love, we chose the song You and I for our wedding” while President Obama commented “I think it’s fair to say that had I not been a Stevie Wonder fan, Michelle might not have dated me . . . The fact that we agreed on Stevie was part of the essence of our courtship.” Wonder then joked, “President and Mrs. Obama, I’m so excited to know that I was a part of… I needn’t say more” and added “You know, maybe I’ll be a part of creating some more of those babies.”
