Taxing Issues for Obama

February 6, 2009

This week, CNN and the New York Times found themselves quite busy as four (4) nominees of President Barack Obama found that they needed to explain previous and/or current indiscretions regarding taxes.  The four individuals are: Tom Daschle – Mr.  Daschle (a former South Dakota senator) was nominated for the position of secretary of health and human services. On February 3, 2009 he withdrew his nomination due to the fact that he had failed to pay more than $128,000 in taxes. Nancy Killefer – Ms. Killefer is a senior director at McKinsey & Company  (a consulting firm) and was nominated to be deputy director of management at the Office of Management and Budget in addition to being chief performance officer. She withdrew her nomination because of problems with District of Columbia unemployment tax. Timothy Geithner – Mr. Geithner is the former president of the Federal Reserve Bank in New York.  Despite the knowledge that he did not pay in excess of $34,000 in federal taxes earlier this decade, he has now been confirmed as secretary of the Treasury.  Hilda Solis – Ms. Solis is a congresswoman from California’s 32nd district.  She is up for nomination as labor secretary and as of this writing her fate has not yet been decided.  Her husband owed (and has now paid) $6,400 in tax liens which caused the Senate to delay its vote. click here for limerick
