Anticipating the Tomato
January 27, 2009
For over 100 years, H.J. Heinz company included a drawing of a gherkin pickle as part of its logo. The company announced that in an effort to promote its “grown not made” slogan, it will replace the pickle on the ketchup labels with a tomato on a vine. As a result a “Save the Heinz Pickle” page was created on Facebook. The company stated the pickle will remain on the lables for Heinz vinegar, chili sauce and mustard.
Heinz ketchup fans can not be called fickle
On Facebook, they demand “Save the Pickle”
Who knew love was lurkin’
For a simple little gherkin
Though the ketchup still pours with a trickle
